FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Burley, Idaho 50 interchange bridge work begins soon

BURLEY – A pair of bridge resurfacing projects is set to begin this week and is expected to only have minor impacts to traffic, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Beginning today (Wednesday, June 20), crews will begin work to resurface the bridge roadway on Idaho 50 as it crosses Interstate 84 near the Travelers Oasis in Jerome County. Work will begin at the Idaho 27 interchange in north Burley on Monday (June 25).

Half of each bridge structure will be closed while crews remove the driving surface, pour a new concrete surface, and complete other maintenance necessary for each project. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction at both bridges and access to the on- and off-ramps to I-84 will be maintained throughout the work.

Drivers are reminded to use caution through each work zone and to watch for workers and equipment.

Both bridge projects are under contract with Cannon Builders of Blackfoot. The Idaho 50 bridge is expected to be complete by the end of July. The Idaho 27 project is expected to be complete by the end of September.

This is part of a larger bridge-repair effort in south-central Idaho encompassing multiple bridges and two contracts totaling $3.6 million.

ITD and the Idaho State Police advise motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
