Transportation department seeks comment on potential improvements to American Falls intersection
POCATELLO - The Idaho Transportation Department is seeking public comment on potential improvements to the Pocatello Avenue and I-86 Business Loop intersection in American Falls.
An open house is being held at the American Falls City Hall (550 N. Oregon Trail) from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in American Falls. Idaho Transportation Department staff will be available to provide information on the project and answer questions. Those interested in the project are encourged to attend any time between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The transportation department is considering two alternatives to improve the intersection. One alternative involves installing a signal at the intersection. The second alternative involves building a roundabout with bypass lanes. Signalizing the intersection would be less expensive than installing a roundabout. However, there would be on-going power and maintenance costs associated with the signal. A roundabout would not have on-going maintenance costs associated with a signalized intersection, and would allow traffic to move through the intersection continuously.
Those with questions about the open house or project can contact Dan Harelson at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (208) 239-3377. Comments are being taken through Monday, Nov. 20, and can be emailed to email@example.com or mailed to: Dan Harelson, Idaho Transportation Department District 5 Office, 5151 S. 5th Avenue, Pocatello, ID 83204.
