Imaginative, innovative pictures highlight recent Aviation Art Contest

Eighty-six wonderfully imaginative creations from all corners of the state poured in throughout the spring in the annual Aviation Art Contest.

The theme for this year's contest was "Aviation Recreation." Artists as young as five and as old as 17 entered their artwork in the competition.

In the end, the winners were Cole from Council in the Beginner (ages 5-6) category, his older sister Elise in the Junior (ages 7-9) category, Kara from Lewiston in the Intermediate (ages 10-13) group, and Whitney from Boise in the Senior (ages 14-17) category. Whitney's winning artwork is shown above.

Artwork was judged based on originality, design and relativity to the theme.

First-place winners from each category will be invited on an airplane ride, in addition to participating in an award's ceremony. They will also have the option to have their art signed by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, along with a framed congratulatory letter. Winning artists will be announced in the state aviation publication, Rudder Flutter, and each will receive a subscription. In addition, these accomplished artists will be invited to participate in our Ace Academy in mid-June, regardless of their age.
