D3 Innovation Steward profile: Lori Fox

A few years ago, ITD leadership noticed that great ideas generated out in the field weren't getting submitted into the innovation funnel. The main culprit was not an unwillingness, but rather just not knowing how. So to remove that barrier, innovation stewards were added in each district to facilitate the submission of ideas. These innovation stewards may not be extremely well known in the districts.

To address this, profiles of these stewards will be published in these pages. The first one was D5 Innovation Steward Greydon Wright, followed by D6 Steward Josh Sprague, D4 Innovation Steward Trey Mink, and D2 innovation steward Doral Hoff/Roy Hill.

We continue this week with D3's Lori Fox (pictured right), who assumed the role recently from Jennifer Gonzalez, who had been the steward for the first few years.

What intrigued you about this role?
L.F.: I like to help people discover great things about themselves…how much potential they really have. Being an innovation steward is doing just that…encouraging them to share it with others.

How long have you been the D3 innovation steward?
L.F.: Officially, since March of this year.

Are there common misperceptions you often hear that prove to hinder the process of submitting ideas?
L.F.: That innovation has to be some great big, "original" idea.
How would you answer those concerns?

L.F.: Innovation is making something better…even "good" things can be better.

What have you found to be most rewarding about the position or the process?
L.F.: Helping folks own the pride they should in their accomplishments and sharing good ideas with others so they don't have to fight the same struggle over again for no reason.
