Governance Conference April 27 allows ITD Technology Services to analyze processes, set performance benchmarks for future

ITD's statewide technology staff, led by Enterprise Technology Services, instituted an "IT Governance" process in August of 2016 to shore up what they readily acknowledged was a lack of holistic management of technology to achieve department-wide objectives. It was the culmination of several years of strategic planning and problem analysis.

About 80 employees from around the state came together, representing a variety of business lines. The groups have been meeting at least monthly since then, with a conference slated for April 27 to discuss best practices, what's working well and what is not, and other issues as the process continues. An action plan to guide those efforts in the future is one of the goals of the conference as well.

Some of the issues to be addressed is how to make sure decision-making reflects a more strategic directive — doing what is best for the entire organization rather than focusing only on what is best for the smaller group.

The countermeasure to that issue is IT Governance – specifically, putting structure around how, and to what extent, ITD makes investments in technology. This requires a broad base of business representatives to get involved in the decision-making processes. Enter governance.

Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming Governance Conference and some employee testimonials.
