Idaho Transportation Department launches new, redesigned website

To help customers quickly find information or services they need, the Idaho Transportation Department has launched a new public website.

In addition to combining subject areas and offering information in a convenient format, the new website is compatible with mobile devices. When displayed on a smart-phone screen or tablet, pages will contract, while continuing to display necessary information.

“It comes down to usability,” said Brian Ness, the director of the transportation department. “Our goal was to create an interface that is intuitive and easy for our customers.”

To right is a picture of the old website home page. Behind the homepage were thousands of additional pages and links that have been dramatically reduced with the new redesigned site.

Web pages associated with the Division of Motor Vehicles are frequently visited by ITD customers. The new web site condenses 30 DMV pages into one, using tabs and an accordian. Tabs run across the top of a web page, and accordians run down it. Both can be clicked on to give customers additional information.

On the main DMV page, for example, five tabs are displayed near the top. They are titled Registration/Plates, Driver’s License/ID Cards, Motor Carrier Services, Ports of Entry and Vehicle Dealers.

The redesign of the web site involved transportation department staff from different divisions, and included a team specifically assigned to the redesign project. Team members contributed input and comments designed to make the site as user-friendly as possible.
