Signal upgrades, optimization throughout Twin Falls begins

Traffic signals throughout Twin Falls will be improved and upgraded, beginning this week. All signals impacted by the project — more than 30 of them — are on U.S. and Idaho highway routes. The upgrades will bring these signals to current standards and optimize the efficient flow of traffic.

Signals (mapped below) will receive a variety of upgrades, including new or upgraded vehicle-detection systems, upgraded signal cabinets, control panels and electronic components, and replacing existing several left-turn signals with flashing yellow arrow (FYA) signals.

Additionally, 69 signals throughout the Magic Valley will also see replacement of the signal head back plates over the coming months.

Most of the work should be completed without delays or affecting the normal flow of traffic. Drivers are reminded to watch for short-term traffic control measures for the different operations, including shoulder and lane closures. Four-way stop signs and flagger-controlled intersections will be used if signals need to be shut off or put into flash mode.

Cache Valley Electric, of Salt Lake City, is the contractor for work the $802,000 project. Work is expected to be completed through the winter months.
