Stokes marks 10 years at ITD Headquarters Between Scott and his dad, there's been a Stokes at ITD since 1944 (with a small gap between Eldon's retirement and Scott's ascension). Scott is part of the fabric of this place; definitely one of the family. So his 10th anniversary here at Headquarters is noteworthy. On Feb. 26, 2007, he moved from district engineer in D1 to deputy director in Boise. The chief deputy (pictured right) launched his career at ITD in January 1992 when he became a staff engineer in the bridge section at Headquarters. The assignment continued until March of 1993, when he moved north to become a project development engineer in Coeur d’Alene. Stokes returned to Boise to become the state bridge engineer 18 months later. He migrated back to Coeur d’Alene in 1996 after being named district engineer. Although Scott has spent his time with ITD on this side of the state, he started on the eastern side, in Salmon. His father (pictured below, a year before retirement) also called Salmon home, starting with the department in 1944 as a yardman there, making $260 per month. He graduated from Salmon High School the previous year and worked in his father's dairy. Eldon finished a 36-year career with the department on Jan. 31, 1984. It would have been 40 years, but he spent several years working for the Bureau of Entomology in Twin Falls. Scott graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in civil engineering in 1983 (the same year as Eldon's picture here), and then earned a master’s in the same discipline the following year. He served as interim Director from July 2009 to January 2010.
