OHS welcomes familiar face in new role

They say the more things change, the more they stay the same. That statement rings true for the Office of Highway Safety (OHS) as they welcome their newest grants officer.

It’s been nearly five years since Cecilia Awusie (pictured right) left her position at OHS to focus on her young family. Now, the kids are a little older and she’s back at work making Idaho’s highways safer.

“It seems like my life path has come full circle,” Awusie said. “OHS does an incredible job implementing behavioral programs that are designed to affect drivers in a positive way, and I look forward to being a part of this change.”

Awusie began her career at ITD in 1999 as a technical records specialist at the Division of Motor Vehicles. Seven years later, she became the Technical Training Coordinator for the Division of Highways.

In 2008, she began her first stint at OHS, where she worked for four years.

“We are so excited to have Cecilia back in the Office of Highway Safety,” said Highway Safety Manager John Tomlinson. “Her prior experience in OHS has allowed her to jump right in, despite some major federal code changes over the past five years.”

In addition to her experience working in highway safety, Awusie also has experience in contract administration, project planning and budgeting, but it’s her enthusiasm and perspective that make her a great fit at OHS.

“She brings energy and a fresh set of innovative ideas to our office,” Tomlinson said. “We have an amazing team of grants contracts officers, and Cecilia fits right in.”

Awusie says she’s excited to be back at OHS, where she will work hard to help achieve the goal of zero deaths on Idaho’s highways.

“I am really excited to partner with all of our highway safety partners and focus on promoting a positive highway safety message in our beautiful state,” she said.
