Murphy becomes new ITD Emergency Services Coordinator Sept. 18          

Neal Murphy joins ITD as the department's new Emergency Services Coordinator Sept. 18. Murphy comes to ITD with a strong military and emergency management background.

Born in the high desert of Southern California to an aviation family, Murphy served the United States Air Force overseas both in Europe and Asia, as well as numerous deployments in Southeast Asia beginning with Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

He was then stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base and found Idaho to be a great place to raise a family, making the decision to transfer to the Idaho Air National Guard. There, he held numerous high-profile positions including Communication Director, Community Manager and Deputy Support Group Director. He culminated his career as the Idaho National Guard Joint Director of Military Support working closely with the Idaho Office of Emergency Management and rising to the rank of Colonel.

"The biggest challenge will be learning ITD's organization to include the people, structure, lines of communication and the sub-culture to make a positive impact in my new position," Murphy said.

"I believe that I can use my skills and knowledge to assist ITD with any challenges the future may bring through flexible and detailed planning to ensure the safety and support of all members of ITD," he added.

"Great to be coming to a great organization!"

Murphy obtained his Human Relation degree at Fresno State. He is qualified in all aspect of Incident Command System (ICS) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operations and planning. He and wife, Kelly, have three children.

"Neal brings a unique set of skills and experience to ITD that will help us to advance significantly in how we view emergency preparedness as well as safety," said ITD Chief Deputy Scott Stokes. "His leadership experience will be a great asset."
