Employee Spotlight: Harold Booth, Hammett Maintenance

Meet Harold Booth. Harold drives a snow plow along the highways near his home in Hammett. He's part of a 12-man maintenance shed responsible for maintaining 385 lane miles of highway, including 70 miles of mountain roads.

Born in Mt. Home, he's a solid hometown boy, only leaving to serve his country for eight years as a sailor in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning home, he served another 14 years as an Air National Guardsman.

Harold saw his future on the open road, driving long-haul trucks for a few years and locally for several more. A couple of his buddies kept bugging him to apply at ITD for winter work. So, five years ago, he did.

Already a licensed and experienced truck driver, Harold fit right in at ITD (of course I heard chuckles coming from the peanut gallery, the crew) and has worked at the Hammett shed since 2012. He likes working at the shed, the good folks and a little joking around.

Asked what he liked best about his job, he said "I like plowin' snow, being out there in the middle of the night, no one bothering me, I don't have to talk to anybody, put some music on, listen to the radio and plow some snow, keepin' the roads clear and safe. I mean, it's fun!"

Sounds like Harold is the right man for the job – someone we can trust to keep us all safe out there.
