Bruce King steps away in District 6

Bruce King, a staunch advocate for the region, retired as Public Information Specialist from District 6 on Wednesday (Jan. 31) after 11 years at ITD and four decades in communication.

King’s career started in the Media Services Department of Brigham Young University in 1977, so he was in the communication business for 40 years. Before ITD, his resume included work at BYU, working for a radio/television station, a daily newspaper, four corporations, and 17 years at the Idaho National Laboratory.

“Each organization has been different, with distinctive values and culture,” King explained. “Each was a new world.”

“Bruce has won various journalist awards over the years that I think help lend respect to the ITD Communication Office's efforts with the media,” said Kimbol Allen, who served as the D6 District Engineer from 2014-15.  “He has been a steady point of contact for the local media over the years as the leadership has been changing.”

“Bruce has been helping D6 tell important stories to our customers for many years,” Allen explained. “Also, perhaps most valued by many employees, Bruce gets the camera face time with the media.”

King has served three, four-year terms on the city council for Sugar City, and was recently elected to a fourth term and is starting his 13th year. He served as council president for three years, and was nominated for another year, but declined it to allow other members the opportunity to fill the role.

King will help with the political campaign of his wife, Elaine, who is running for State Representative of Legislative District 34, Seat B.

A new communication specialist is being recruited now to serve the eastern Idaho area King served. The new person will undoubtedly be qualified immediately to fill the role – it may take a bit longer to fill the shoes.
