Computer upgrades start in August

With Windows 7 reaching the end of its life in 2019, this fall the department will begin upgrading all 2,700 agency PCs to Windows 10 and Office 2016. The Windows 10/Office 2016 migration will begin in August 2018, and will roll out over the following 12 months.

Leading up to the change, employees should move documents from your desktop to shared drives, or Windows Explorer folders on your desktop. Documents and folders on an employee's desktop may not restore properly as the computer is reimaged with Windows 10/Office 2016.

More information will be coming soon. If you have questions, email the Windows 10 Program Manager Elaine.Couture@itd.Idaho.gov

Many county DMV offices have been running the new Windows 10 operating system for about five months. The transition for them from Windows 7 was reportedly relatively seamless. Many of you may already be using Windows 10 on your home computers, and ETS anticipates the transition at work will go smoothly as well.
