Idaho 21 repaving project delayed: Popular bike path will remain open until early August
BOISE -- A project to rehabilitate a two-mile stretch of pavement from Diversion Dam to Sandy Point along Idaho 21 has been pushed back for a second week due to the heavy summer road construction schedule. It is expected to begin in early August.
Despite the delay, the project is still expected to be completed on time. It will be followed immediately by a
resurfacing project at the Idaho 21 exit off I-84 (Exit 57) extending to Federal Way. Work on both sections of Idaho 21 is expected to finish by October.
The project, which also involves repaving a popular bike path that runs parallel to the road, was originally scheduled to begin July
20. Idaho Sand & Gravel Co. of Nampa is the contractor on the $1.1 million project that includes a 1.8-inch overlay utilizing the SALSA method
of
resurfacing - Stress Absorbing Layer of Straight Asphalt, which helps
to minimize roadway surface cracking.
This section of Idaho 21 has not been repaved since originally constructed in
the 1980s. Time and weather have deteriorated the highway surface and users must navigate frequent cracks and bumps in
the riding surface.
Allow for extra time when
driving through the area as there will be lane closures throughout the
project.
