MEDIA EVENT: ITD demonstrates how to install child car safety seats as part of Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 12-18)
BOISE -- In advance of Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 12-18), the Idaho Transportation Department is hosting a special
child car safety seat demonstration for media this Friday from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Two certified safety technicians from Safe Kids Treasure Valley, Alissa McKinley and Jeanette Rich, will be on hand to go through the steps for properly installing child car seats and booster seats, and will provide guidelines for determining which restraint system is best suited to protect children based on age and size.
Starting this Saturday, free child seat safety inspections will be offered to the public at the following locations in the Treasure Valley:
- Saturday, Sept. 12: Meridian Fire Station #1, Meridian (1 p.m. - 4 p.m.)
- Monday, Sept. 14: St. Luke's Hospital, Boise (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
- Monday, Sept. 14: St. Luke's Hospital, Meridian (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
- Thursday, Sept. 17: St. Luke's Hospital, Boise (2 p.m.- 6 p.m.)
- Thursday, Sept. 17: St. Luke's Hospital, Meridian (2 p.m. - 6 p.m.)
Nationwide, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics.
Idaho's Child Passenger Safety Law requires that all children six years of age or younger be properly secured in an appropriate child safety restraint.
