FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orchard Alert: Lane restrictions on Orchard Street north of I-84 will begin Wednesday (Sept. 16)

BOISE - Orchard Street north of Interstate 84 will be reduced to one lane in each direction near the Orchard Interchange starting Wednesday (Sept. 16). The Idaho Transportation Department reminds motorists to drive with caution.

The lane restrictions begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 16) and will be in place until late September.

Lane restrictions on Orchard Street begin at Malad Street and end just before the westbound off-ramp. One lane will be open in each direction with a center turn lane. The lane restrictions are necessary while crews pave and rebuild Orchard Street. The work needs to be done before traffic is shifted to the new bridge in early October.

ALBERTSON'S BOISE OPEN:  An advisory for those attending the golf tournament at Hillcrest Country Club through the weekend:

The $15.1 million Orchard Street Interchange project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2010.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
