Girder placement will delay traffic tonight (Friday) and Saturday night (Sept. 18 and 19) near Vista Interchange
BOISE: The Idaho Transportation Department will place concrete girders for the new Vista Interchange tonight and Saturday night (Sept. 18-19). The work will cause brief traffic delays near the interchange.
- On both nights, traffic on Vista Avenue will be stopped near the on- and off-ramps at 10 p.m. while crews swing the girders into place. The process will last about 10 minutes.
- On Friday night, eastbound I-84 will be closed under the Vista Interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be directed to exit and re-enter I-84 using the eastbound ramps.
- On Saturday night, westbound I-84 will be closed under the Vista Interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic will be directed to exit and re-enter I-84 using the westbound ramps.
Work on the new bridge deck will continue through Sunday, Sept. 27. All lanes will be open on I-84 during the day, and at least one lane will be open in both directions at night (10 p.m. to 5 a.m.).
ITD is reconstructing the interchange to improve traffic flow and safety. The new interchange is expected to be complete in the fall of 2010. The $17.8 million construction project is funded through the federal stimulus program, created to generate jobs and help boost Idaho's economy while upgrading the state's foundation for future economic growth.
Central Paving Inc. of Boise is the contractor.
ITD and the Idaho State Police warn motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the interstate system and state highways.
