COEUR d'ALENE - Motorists can expect delays as work begins on a project to replace a culvert on Idaho 5 near milepost 8, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. The existing box culvert will be replaced with a pre-fabricated multi-plate pipe.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions and controlled with a temporary traffic signal. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. A width restriction of 12 feet also will be in effect.
Work will begin Monday (Sept. 21) and is expected to be complete by Oct. 7. The contractor will work 20 hours each day Mondays through Saturdays, beginning at 5 a.m. The temporary traffic control measures will be in place through completion of the project.
The contractor for this $266,000 project is J. Foote Excavation, of Sandpoint.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
