Public invited to learn about I-84 Cole to Broadway widening project at Oct. 6 open house
BOISE - The public is invited to ask questions, meet staff members and learn more about a project to widen Interstate 84 between the Cole and Broadway interchanges when the Idaho Transportation Department hosts an open house on Tuesday (Oct. 6).
Visitors may stop by between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Best Western Vista Inn at the Airport, 2645 Airport Way, east of the Wright Street and Vista Avenue intersection. Details about the project, including traffic impacts and a construction schedule, will be available at the open house.
The project will rebuild and widen 3.2 miles of I-84. Two new east- and westbound lanes will be constructed in the median area of the existing roadway, adding to the two in each direction already in place. Work began in late September.
Construction is expected to be complete in Summer 2011.
More information is available at www.itd.idaho.gov by selecting Projects, Southwest Idaho and I-84 Cole Interchange to Broadway Interchange.
The $35.9 million project is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.
Concrete Placing Company is the contractor.
ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
