FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

I-84 Traffic Alert: Overnight lane closures ahead as Garrity to Meridian widening project wraps up

BOISE -  Overnight lane restrictions will become more frequent on I-84 for the remainder of this week and next (Oct. 15-24) as the Idaho Transportation Department finishes paving on the Garrity to Meridian widening project.

One lane will be closed in both directions Thursday and Friday nights (Oct. 15 and 16) between the Garrity Interchange and Robinson Overpass.

Overnight lane restrictions will continue on eastbound I-84 until Oct. 24.

All lanes will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

The work is part of a project to widen I-84 to three lanes in both directions between the Garrity and Meridian interchanges. ITD plans to open the new lane at the end of October.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
