Orchard Traffic Alert: Lane closures on I-84 Wednesday and Thursday (Oct. 21-22) overnight near interchange

BOISE -  Lane closures are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights (Oct. 21-22) on Interstate 84 near the Orchard Interchange. The Idaho Transportation Department is working on the new bridge on Orchard Street.

A westbound lane will be closed Wednesday (Oct. 21) and an eastbound lane closed Thursday (Oct. 22), from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.

The first five lanes of the new Orchard Street bridge opened on Oct. 17. The old bridge will be demolished starting Friday (Oct. 23) at 10 p.m., and the demolition process is expected to take three nights. Once the bridge is demolished, crews will finish building the final three lanes of the new bridge.

The project is expected to be complete in spring 2010.

The Orchard Interchange is funded through the GARVEE Transportation Program, which uses Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle (GARVEE) bonds to expedite interstate improvements.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
