Traffic Advisory: South Washington Street in Twin Falls closed for reconstruction starting Monday

TWIN FALLS - The reconstruction of a canal bridge and adjoining roadway will close Washington Street South toward the Magic Valley Regional Airport beginning Monday (Oct. 26), the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Construction of a new bridge over the Low Line Canal and reconstruction of about 1.4 miles of roadway is expected to begin as soon as water to the Twin Falls Canal Company system has been shut off. Bridge construction will last throughout the winter with road work to follow in the spring. Work is expected to be complete in June, 2010.

Washington Street will be closed between the intersection with Idaho 74/3600 North Road and 3400 North Road. All traffic will be detoured to Blue Lakes Boulevard South to 3400 North to access the airport. Access to homes in the construction zone will be maintained throughout construction.

The project is the second stage to reconstruct Washington Street South from the Magic Valley Regional Airport to Idaho 74. Stage one of the road work, which constructed a bridge over the Low Line Canal and about a mile of roadway, was completed in 2006.

Knife River of Boise is the contractor for the $2.4 million project that is sponsored by the Twin Falls Highway District. ITD is the administrator for the federally-funded project.
