FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Demolition of the old Vista Interchange bridge starts Monday (Nov. 30)

BOISE - A week of overnight interstate closures will begin near the Vista Interchange on Monday (Nov. 30) while the Idaho Transportation Department demolishes the old interchange bridge.

The bridge will be removed in pieces over six nights, weather permitting:

The interstate will be closed at 10 p.m. each night and re-open at 5 a.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends. Flaggers will divert traffic around the interchange using the off-and on-ramps.

Motorists are advised to find an alternate route or expect delays.

This is the second of three bridge demolitions planned on I-84 in a three-month timeframe. The old Orchard Interchange bridge was demolished Oct. 23, and the Ten Mile Overpass is expected to be demolished Dec. 11.

The $17.8 million Vista Interchange reconstruction project will be completed by fall 2010.

Construction is funded through the federal stimulus program, created to generate jobs and help boost Idaho's economy while upgrading our foundation for future economic growth.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
