FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vista Avenue restrictions on Wednesday night (July 21) will prepare interchange for SPUI transition

BOISE - Vista Avenue will be reduced overnight to one lane in each direction between Elder and Wright streets from 10 p.m. Wednesday (July 21) until 5 a.m. Thursday (July 22).

Flaggers will direct traffic while the Idaho Transportation Department re-times the traffic signal at Elder Street and re-stripes sections of Vista Avenue.

The work on Wednesday will allow ITD to transition the interchange into a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) on Thursday after a year of reconstruction. Vista Avenue will be closed between the I-84 ramps during the overnight transition, which will begin at 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The closure is expected to last six hours.

A SPUI has one central traffic signal instead of multiple signals controlling movements at the interchange. It is designed to move high traffic volumes more efficiently in busy areas.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
