FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Several changes planned on I-84 near Nampa's Garrity Interchange this weekend

BOISE - Motorists driving westbound on Interstate 84 between Meridian and Nampa can expect changes this weekend due to construction on the Garrity Interchange.

Weather permitting, I-84 westbound will be closed between the Meridian and Garrity interchanges overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday (Nov. 19). Traffic will be detoured down Franklin Road and will exit I-84 at the Meridian Interchange and re-enter I-84 at the Garrity Interchange.

Access ITD's Facebook page here for the detour map.

This closure is needed to install an overhead sign and to move westbound traffic to the north out of the median area and onto the newly constructed westbound bridge over Garrity Boulevard. Two lanes will be open by Saturday morning.

Weather permitting, I-84 eastbound will be reduced to one lane at the Garrity Interchange overnight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday night (Nov. 20). This lane reduction is needed for crews to work on the eastbound ramp and to move eastbound traffic to the north into the median area. Two lanes will be open by Sunday morning,

This configuration will last several months, allowing crews to remove and replace the I-84 eastbound bridge over Garrity Boulevard. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2011, with three lanes open in each direction over the bridge, eventually connecting with a fourth lane in each direction east of the interchange. An additional benefit is the removal of the bridge piers in the roadway on Garrity Boulevard.

The speed limit has been lowered to 35 mph on Garrity Boulevard and 55 mph on I-84 through the construction zones.

ITD and the Idaho State Police caution motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving in work zones, where increased speeding fines and other penalties apply. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and dial 5-1-1 or visit 511.idaho.gov for information on the state highway or interstate system.
