Governor picks Aberdeen's Horsch to fill D-5 spot on board

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter announced this week the appointment of Dwight Horsch, an Aberdeen farmer and former Idaho legislator, to succeed Neil Miller of Blackfoot on the Idaho Transportation Board.

Horsch, 65, officially joined the seven-member board June 1 and will serve a six-year term. He fills a designated Democrat seat on the board, which is the latest in a series of public service positions he has held over the years.

Horsch served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1978 through 1984, and in the Idaho Senate from 1984 through 1986. He also served on an advisory panel to the State Board of Education on vocational education issues, as a member of the Idaho Judicial Council, as Idaho state president of the Potato Growers of Idaho, as a member of the National Potato Council, as a member of the Idaho State Soil Conservation Commission, and most recently as a member of the Idaho State Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

He also is a veteran of the Idaho Air National Guard, attended the University of Idaho and earned his degree in agri-business from Kansas State University.

“Dwight has devoted a lot of time, resources and effort over the years to making Idaho an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” Gov. Otter said. “His depth and range of experience will be a real asset to me and the Idaho Transportation Board as we address Idaho’s long-term transportation needs. I look forward to working with him in this new role.”
