New Idaho Traffic Safety Commission members introduced

New members appointed to the Idaho Traffic Safety Commission (ITSC) met last week to review ITD’s Highway Safety Performance Plan.

This was the first meeting for many in the group who reviewed and then approved implementing the plan.

Joining Chairman Scott Stokes and commission member Ginger Floerchinger-Franks, of the Idaho Trauma Registry, are the following new members:

  • Chief Jeff Wilson, Orofino Police Department
  • Brian Johns, driver’s education coordinator, Idaho Department of Education
  • Judge George Hicks, Elmore County DUI Court
  • Karla Bryan, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center
  • Major Ralph Powell, patrol operations, Idaho State Police
  • Sen. Jim Hammond, chairman, Idaho Senate Transportation Committee
  • Rep. Joe Palmer, chairman, Idaho House Transportation and Defense Committee
  • Sheriff Dave Johnson, Bingham County Sheriff’s Office
  • Stacey (Ax) Axmaker, Idaho STAR

The mission of the ITSC is to periodically review traffic safety problems in Idaho and develop effective plans for local-state cooperative solutions. The group recommends to the ITD director agency programs and political subdivision programs to receive federal aid for highway safety in accordance with uniform federal standards.

ITSC also advises and recommends to the ITD director future traffic accident prevention activities, as well as carrying out other those required by the Federal Highway Safety act of 1966 and any subsequent amendments.

The group’s activities align with ITD’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan and support the transportation department’s Toward Zero Deaths goal.
