Perkins on road to recovery

It's been a long road to recovery for a supervisor with the Idaho Transportation Department. Claylon Perkins was hit by a car when he stopped to help somebody out.

Not many people can say they survived getting hit by a car on the interstate but Claylon Perkins can. Claylon is an active member of the community but in February, that was almost taken away from him.

"To tell you the truth, I really don't remember a whole lot of that day," said Claylon Perkins. "I pulled up on an accident scene and the last thing I remember was hearing cars screeching."

The accident happened along the interstate on the south side of Pocatello. That's where Claylon stopped to help with an accident when a car lost control and sent him over the guardrail. He didn't wake up until he was in the hospital. Still, Claylon says if he had to do it all over again he would do the same thing.

"You better believe it. I would do it a little different I think, but that's part of my job to help on accident scenes, traffic control and so forth. My job is to make it as easy for the traveling public as we possibly can and that's what I was trying to do."

After spending a week in the hospital, Claylon has since gone through a rigorous rehabilitation process. As you can see, he has regained his mobility and he's even returned to work. Claylon could have easily stayed at home but that's not who he is.

Claylon loves officiating high school football and his goal is to return to the field this fall.
