Parrish named ITD safety manager

I am pleased to announce that Vic Parrish, from our Training and Development office has been selected to fill the ITD Safety manager position. Vic studied at the University of Texas and Howard Payne University.

He completed Life Safety Code classes in Texas and was certified upon completion. He has been responsible for safety in residential settings for people with mental retardation, conducted safety training and did safety inspections in those same circumstances, as well as conducting investigations into injuries caused by clients or the environment.

His experience includes conducting general safety inspections as well as fire safety and extinguisher inspections, and making recommendations to management regarding corrective actions. He has provided first aid, CPR classes and Defensive Driving, and has also done investigations into situations where these procedures were unsuccessful. He worked for the State Office of Risk Management in Texas where he trained safety officers across all state agencies to create safety programs, conduct investigations into safety issues, find the root causes of accidents and determine prevention solutions.

Vic’s background in both safety and training and his nearly 10 years of service with ITD gives him a well rounded and valuable skill set that will serve him well in re-vamping the department’s safety program. Please join me in congratulating Vic.
