New Murphy maintenance shed will improve
highway response, customer service

ITD will build a new maintenance shed in Murphy next year.

The state recently acquired a 10-acre parcel for the new facility. Well drilling and excavation for a septic system is planned on the property this fall.

The new shed, which will look very similar to the new Emmett shed, will be built next summer when the money comes available in the new fiscal year. By next fall, the new shed, located about two miles east of town, will be operating with a new crew.

“We are doing this to make the best use of our resources for winter maintenance,” explained District Maintenance Engineer Tom Points. “Realigning the Mountain Home and Caldwell maintenance boundaries and building this new shed in Murphy will help ITD provide better snowplow coverage and will increase customer service.”

“We are working on plans to staff the shed and provide equipment. The users of these highways will benefit from this change as will drivers of oversized loads who often use Idaho 78 from Hammet to Marsing.”
