ITD launches study of office spaces at Headquarters

"Space: The Final Frontier." Or, in the case of ITD, the present frontier.

ITD launched a space needs analysis of the Headquarters office complex last month to ensure the most efficient use of work areas under the new organizational structure.

As a result of the realignment process, some supervisors now work in locations that are not immediately accessible to the employees they supervise. The space needs study will help bridge that gap. It also is designed to allocate workspace that is most efficient.

In some cases, offices and cubicles might be reconfigured or remodeled and employees relocated, explains Kathy Chase, Business & Support manager, who is coordinating the study. The goal is to maximize the use of space, address present needs and prepare for those in the immediate future.

LCA Architects of Boise, which has an established working relationship with ITD, is conducting the study. Representatives have inspected work areas and are matching them with ITD’s new organizational chart. The study includes the main building (except for the wing occupied by the Division of Motor Vehicles), the Annex, the State Street Center and two modular buildings.

The initial survey shows 25,086 square feet (sq. ft.) allocated to administrative functions, 24,857 sq. ft. to the Division of Motor Vehicles, 13,623 sq. ft. to highways, 7,312 sq. ft. to personnel reporting to the director, 4,987 sq. ft. to Human Resources, 26,103 sq. ft. to “circulation and support,” and 844 sq. ft. of vacant space.

A preliminary assessment could be ready for presenting to the department’s executive team by the end of September.
