Credit union prepares to open Meridian branch

Icon Credit Union, created as a financial institution for state transportation employees, has extended its reach in the Treasure Valley to Meridian. Construction of the new branch is finished and will formally open Sept. 12.

The new branch is located at 485 W. Overland Road, next to the Meridian Lowe’s Home Improvement Store and across from Roaring Springs Water Park. It will feature three drive-up teller lines, a large meeting room for community events and a striking, modern appearance.

“The number of Icon’s members from the Meridian area have continued to grow over the years, so we were excited to have this be our next area for expansion,” explains Connie Miller, President and CEO. “In addition, several years ago, our loyal members from the Idaho State Police moved from the State Street location in Boise, across from our main branch on 1010 Rose St. to the Meridian facility.

“Although it has required a drive to our Boise branches to maintain their membership at Icon over the years, we are now excited to be neighbors in Meridian. Members now can enjoy a more convenient location and a beautiful new building,” Miller added.

The large conference room in the new branch will be available for use by the community, Miller said. Icon also has designated an area for displaying local art.

“Icon has been a strong partner in our communities, and this just seemed a natural addition, so we can continue supporting those partnerships. Icon believes strongly in giving back to the communities we share, and are excited to share our new building with area members and businesses,” Miller added.

Icon will offer several events leading up to the formal opening.

* A “Behind the Scenes,” is planned for credit union members only on Sept. 8 (Thursday) from 5:30 pm. To 7:30 p.m. Members will have a chance to tour the facility with “full insider access.” The credit union will provide tours of the facility and offer refreshments.

"This will be a sneak peak before the general public is able to come through,” Icon representatives explained.

* Saturday, Sept. 10, Icon will throw a “block party” to celebrate the new branch. The event will include a free smoked pork lunch with baked potatoes, salad and cake. Participants will have a chance to win a number of prizes, including a trip for two to Hawaii and an iPad.

The block party will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. The Big Wow Band will play live music from noon to 3 p.m.
