Workshop planned on doing business with government

Doing business with the government can seem daunting, so state and federal agencies want to make that process easier for Idaho companies.

Learn the rules of doing business with the government at a free workshop Wednesday (Oct. 5) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Burley Inn & Convention Center at 800 N. Overland Ave., in Burley.

ITD, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Idaho Department of Commerce’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center will present the program.

Bateman-Hall General Contractors will also be on hand to discuss subcontracting with them during construction of the Bureau of Reclamation Burley Office Building.

The workshop is sponsored by ITD’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program Supportive Services.
Participants will get an overview on bidding with ITD, requirements for bidding as a federal contractor, how business certifications can give an advantage and services available, like free bid-matching.

Other topics to be covered include how to learn about government contracts and how to compete for them, the difference between state and federal contracting, understanding the U.S. Department of Transportation’s DBE program, 8(a) Business Development Program, HUBZone Certification, other business certificates and where to go for assistance.

For more information about the workshop, call ITD's DBE Support Services Coordinator, Liz Healas, at (208) 334-8567 or email her at elizabeth.healas@itd.idaho.gov. A registration flier can be downloaded at http://www.itd.idaho.gov/civil/pdf/DoingBiz10-11.pdf.
