Transit technology draft plan available for review

The final draft of a plan that will guide future transit technology investments in the Division of Transportation Performance is available for review.

“Over the past several years, the Idaho Transportation Department Division of Transportation Performance (formerly the Division of Public Transportation) and its partners have planned for and implemented numerous technologies in support of improved statewide transit operations and the experiences of its users,” according to the report.

“These technologies were funded with federal and state monies and have been focused on increasing efficiencies, enhancing operational effectiveness, increasing service usage and satisfaction, and improving financial and performance management.”

The 43-page Idaho 2011 Transit Technology Plan is a five-year roadmap of “where we go from here.” It focuses on public transit technologies and does not include other ITD or Transportation Performance initiatives.

An early draft of the plan served as a basis for discussions at a statewide transit technology summit, June 14, 15, in Boise. The meeting included representatives from ITD, the Community Transportation Association of Idaho, mobility managers, transit providers and others.

The final draft is available for downloading and reviewing here. Comments or questions about the plan can be directed to Fred Kitchener at fmkitch@mindspring.com. The deadline to submit comments is Oct. 28. A final plan is expected late this year.
