Workshop to focus on payments for change orders

Getting paid for project work performed under a contract is expected. A free workshop Thursday (Nov. 17) will address getting paid for extra work when it is required because of changes to a project.

Learn how to document and get paid for extra work performed on a construction project at a free workshop hosted by ITD from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the department’s East Annex at 3292 Jordan St. in Boise. It is sponsored by the department’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program Supportive Services.

Attorney Wendy T. Wendrowski will guide participants through changes in a construction project’s scope and the contract provisions addressing the changes.

Her program will emphasize how the owner, contractors and subcontractors should document a change in a project’s scope, and how all should document a situation where involved parties dispute whether the scope of work has changed.

The workshop also will cover the claim process as it relates to changed work, change orders, force accounts and differing site conditions. An interactive component will allow participants to draft and critique documentation pertaining to changes on a project.

Wendrowski has practiced law since 1991, specializing in complex business and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on construction litigation. She has prosecuted and defended construction defect claims and claims of violation of federal and state False Claims acts.

She has been involved with construction disputes regarding back-charges, change orders, defective work, defective plans and specifications, and delay.

Wendrowski is a faculty member of Boise State University’s Construction Management Department, teaching “Construction Contracts and the Law.”
