Increased traffic at intersection prompts addition of separators

ITD crews installed traffic separators Tuesday (April 3) at Eagle and Ustick roads at the request of local law enforcement officers who expressed concern for safety.

A new grocery store opened at the intersection’s southeast quadrant, fueling concerns that the increased number of people making left turns in and out of the location would increase the potential for vehicle crashes.

The Meridian Police Department contacted ITD with the safety concerns, and requested the department “explore interim measures to restrict left turns while we waited for the raised curbs to be constructed in this summer’s Eagle Road project,” said District 3 Traffic Manager Kevin Sablan.

ITD decided to add temporary delineators in an attempt to discourage drivers from turning left into and out of the new business complex. Meridian police will monitor the area to determine the effectiveness of the interim measures.
