Honoring the best of the best

Nomination deadline for Excellence in Transportation awards is Friday (April 20)

The people and projects that make transportation an integral part of Idaho life will take center stage this summer as part of the 2012 Excellence in Transportation awards program.

The window for nominating a project or individual is rapidly closing, emphasizes Bruce Macewan. The deadline of submitting an entry is 4 p.m. Friday (April 20).

“The 2012 Excellence in Transportation Awards is an opportunity to showcase outstanding transportation projects and honor employees who make them happen," said Monica Crider who heads the awards program organizing committee. "I encourage our transportation partners to nominate their best projects and accomplishments of the past year for one of the awards.

"We also welcome nominations for ITD personnel who exemplify the best in their profession for one of the individual awards. The award program is an opportunity to recognize the best of the best."

ITD organizes the annual awards into two divisions – Projects and ITD personnel. The program recognizes outstanding initiatives in developing, planning and implementing transportation projects throughout Idaho. It also honors ITD employees in transportation-related fields who have made exceptional contributions to the department.

Any consulting/construction contracting firm or agency involved in transportation-related projects in Idaho is eligible to submit an entry. ITD employees also may nominate their colleagues for the individual awards.

Nominations must be associated with a transportation improvement project and/or use transportation funding in one of the categories listed below. To learn about judging criteria for each of the categories, choose from the associated links or visit the program website.

Entries submitted in previous years may be resubmitted if they meet the timeline outlined in the criteria. Winning entries from previous years are ineligible. A project may be entered in as many categories as appropriate, however, a separate application must be submitted for each category and nominations must meet the qualifications.

One award will be presented to the winner of each category. Each winning entry will have the opportunity to present up to three additional awards to other firms/agencies who may have contributed to the project. Also, up to six certificates of recognition may be given to the project's key personnel.

Winners will be announced during the June Idaho Transportation Board meeting, scheduled for June 13-15 at the District 3 large conference room.
