Spotlight on Transportation

From Community Transportation Association of Idaho (CATI)
There are so many great stories about transportation in and around Idaho that we think it’s time to recognize some great organizations, some amazing people and share ideas! Each month we are going to spotlight an Idaho success story.
Want to share what you do for your community or an outstanding employee? Your organization could be featured here next! Send us an email with your success story to gateam@itd.idaho.gov.

We thought a great way to start the spotlight would be with SPOT located in Dover. SPOT stands for Selkirks-Pend Oreille Transit, a not-for-profit collaborative venture involving the cities of Dover, Sandpoint, Ponderay and Kootenai.

SPOT is a free public bus service overseen by a volunteer committee, known as the Bonner Transportation Team. Marion Johnson manages the system from her base in Dover. SPOT is a win-win for the local economy connecting visitors in the mountain and the local communities to shop, eat and play.

Local residents also can take advantage of the system in getting to and from work and school. The bus also is handicap accessible.

One of the things SPOT did to generate buzz in the community was to have a contest to name the service, and there were more than 100 entries! While they were only looking for a name they ended up with an entire brand and identity.

SPOT stops are the bus stops, Night Spots are stops along the evening route and the library is nicknamed the Smart Spot. Route maps with colorful spots indicate these SPOT stops. Very clever! Thank you SPOT, for all that you do!
