Equipment operators put skills on line in annual 'roadeos'

As ITD crews make a transition from winter maintenance to summer repairs and construction, they have an opportunity to match their skills with their counterparts, both within their districts and statewide.

Their abilities will be displayed in friendly, but spirited, competition in the next month in a series of equipment “roadeos” throughout the state. The annual test of driving acumen and written problem solving began this week with the District 4 roadeo. Maintenance workers and foremen assembled Wednesday at the Twin Falls maintenance facility.

The rest of the 2012 roadeo schedule is:

  • Tuesday, May 22, District 6, Ashton maintenance shed
  • Thursday, May 24, District 5, Pocatello, headquarters yard
  • Wednesday, May 30, District 3, ITD gravel site in Garden Valley
  • Tuesday, June 5, District 1, ITD gravel site in Athol
  • Thursday, June 7, District 2, Dworshak Dam, Orofino

District 2 will serve as host of the state roadeo championship that brings together the top two finishers at the district level along with the top maintenance foreman to compete for berths at the national competition in Estes Park, Colo.

The state roadeo finals will be Tuesday, June 12, at Dworshak Dam.
