ITD staff to participate in emergency training academy

Eight ITD employees who have been assigned to positions in the department’s emergency program will participate in a federal training academy next week at Boise State University.

Organized and presented by Idaho’s Bureau of Homeland Security, the academy provides specialized training for All-Hazards Incident Management Teams. It includes eight specific tracks that range from two to five days and is delivered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The Idaho Incident Command System (ICS) academy for command and general emergency staff provides training in how to fulfill position responsibilities, lead assigned personnel, communicate effectively and complete assigned tasks to meet ICS objectives.

The skills provide “the foundation for responders to form Incident Management Teams in their regions,” according to a BHS announcement. “The Idaho ICS Academy is designed for responders to meet their counterparts from around the state as well as cross-train for other positions.”

In addition to ITD’s Emergency Program Manager Bryan Smith, the following emergency duty officers and advisory coordinators are scheduled to participate in the academy:

  • Rod Becker (logistics)
  • Mel Coulter (public information)
  • Jim Csencsits (government liaison)
  • Nestor Fernandez (planning)
  • Fran Hood (operations)
  • Jennifer Miller (finance)
  • Vic Parrish (safety)
