Public asked to weigh in on freight transportation

ITD wants suggestions from the public on improvements that would strengthen the state’s freight transportation network and improve the economy.

Potential improvements to the freight system are part of the transportation department’s strategic goals to improve safety, mobility and economic opportunity.

Six workshops are scheduled across Idaho in July. The workshops are designed to identify regional priorities, policies and projects that may promote and improve economic development opportunities.
The workshops are being held at:

  • Rexburg: The Development Company, 299 E. 4th N. Tuesday, July 10, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Pocatello: City Council Chambers, 911 7th St. Wednesday, July 11, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Boise: Department of Agriculture Conference Center, 2270 Old Penitentiary Rd., Thursday, July 12, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Twin Falls: College of Southern Idaho, Taylor Building, Room 277, Tuesday, July 17, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Coeur d’Alene: Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave., Tuesday, July 24, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (PST)
  • Lewiston: Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main St., Wednesday, July 25, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (PST)

The workshops are part of a larger statewide planning effort to study the multimodal freight network. The study began in December with the first Idaho Freight Summit. At the summit, participants said there is a need for a statewide vision to identify and prioritize policies, programs and investments in Idaho that contribute to the safe and efficient movement of freight.

Those interested in attending one of the workshops are asked to RSVP by Friday (July 6), via e-mail to: maureen.gresham@itd.idaho.gov or by phone at (208) 334-8272.
