Surplus computer equipment reborn at CWI

What to do with retired, yet still very functional, computer equipment?

ITD extends the life of computers by removing data from hard drives and passing them along to worthy recipients. For the last few years, the College of Western Idaho in Nampa has become a prime beneficiary of the department’s surplus computers and technology equipment.

Donations to the college reduce its expenditures for new equipment, gives students access to useful computers and related equipment, and prevents additional burdens on area landfills.

College President Bert Glandon acknowledged a recent donation in a letter to ITD’s Jeff Osieczonek who arranges for purging of computer data and processes the donations.

Mr. Osieczonek,

I was so pleased to learn from Bartt Anderson of your extremely generous donation of a surplus desktop, laptop, server computer systems, color and monochrome laser printers and miscellaneous office equipment to the College of Idaho’s Computer Support Specialists program or other IT programs in the Ada County Center.

It is apparent that you share our high expectations for how students are educated – not only in ensuring that we teach at industry standard, but also in providing the tools necessary to accomplish that goal. It is a task that requires dedication and partnership, which is especially gratifying to know that you believe in and support our work.

We invite you to learn more about what CWI is doing in our community by subscribing to our bi-monthly e-newsletter by visiting www.cwidaho.cc/cwi-in-the-news. We are excited to share the wonderful changes and accomplishments taking place.

So, I thank you again for this great expression of commitment to our mission and purpose here at the college …

Bert Glandon
President,
College of Western Idaho
