Crews replace culvert near New Meadows

A project that drew accolades from city officials in New Meadows recently eliminated a bottleneck for winter runoff and a recurring concern for maintenance workers. The culvert under U.S. 95 habitually clogs with debris in the spring and prevents runoff from -- well, running off. That occasionally sends the water over the highway surface.

At the request of city officials who shared their concern about the culvert at a recent Capital City for a Day, ITD crews replaced the culvert last week. These photos show ITD maintenance workers literally in the trenches.

It took two days to remove the old culvert and install the two new pipes, and half a day to pave the trench.
