Pair journey cross-country to aid orphanage

BLISS - This is 33-year-old Steven Wescott and his goat, LeeRoy. The duo are tackling a cross-country trip to raise money for an orphanage being built in Kenya by his best friend.

"I'm trying to raise $200,000, which is quite a lot of money to try and raise when you're walking with a goat; it's been a really interesting experience so far," Wescott said.

He said he knew he wanted to do this walk, but pairing up with LeeRoy was purely an accident. He planned to walk with a dog, but when the pooch got hurt before the start of the adventure, he turned to the Internet.

"... I went out there and I got him, he and he's like the goat of destiny, I'll tell you what a total showstopper," he said.

Wescott says the change in travel partner has been a learning experience and has reshaped his travel plans to complete the walk in just about a year.

"I had planned to do it in nine months, but a goat is not a Ferrari, it's more like a school bus, lots of stops, really slow," he said.

Right now, the walking buddies have raised about $100 a day. He's on his third pair of shoes since leaving Seattle.

"I think a lot of times in our culture we don't see the kindness of America, we don't see the kindness of all the other people around us, and I've seen it, I've experience it first hand and I want my life to be marked by that when I'm done with this."
