ITD schedules legislative outreach series

Director Brian Ness and other ITD executives will discuss transportation and related topics with legislators throughout the state next month as a prelude to the 2013 Legislative session.

The annual legislative outreach meetings give ITD representatives a chance to showcase the department's accomplishments of the past year and its service to the citizens of Idaho. Although ITD officials will initiate discussion, the greatest benefit of the outreach meetings comes from listening and learning, explains Governmental Affairs Manager Mollie McCarty.

“Our primary purpose is to let legislators guide the discussion. It is an opportunity for them to talk about priorities for the coming session and to share with us what they hear from constituents.

“The meetings allow us to re-connect with existing legislators and get to know those who are new to the process.”

ITD officials will talk briefly about the department’s Strategic Plan, the Five-Year Plan and legislation that likely will be introduced during the 2013 session.

The series of six meetings begins Monday, Dec. 10 at the District 3 office in Boise. It will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ITD representatives will travel to northern Idaho the next day for meetings in Coeur d’Alene (9 a.m. to 11 a.m., District 1 office, 6700 W. Prairie) and Lewiston (2 p.m. to 4 p.m., District 2 office, 2600 Frontage Road).

The second half of the outreach meeting schedule is:

  • District 4, Dec. 17, Shoshone (216 S. Date St.), 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • District 6, Dec. 18, Rigby (206 N. Yellowstone Highway), 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • District 5, Dec. 18, Pocatello (5151 S. 5th), 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
