Workshop to explain how to do business with government

Business leaders, entrepreneurs and individuals can learn the basic rules of doing business with the government by attending a free workshop Wednesday (Dec. 5) from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Owyhee Plaza Hotel, 1109 Main St., in Boise.

The educational program will feature presenters from ITD, the Idaho Department of Commerce, the Idaho Division of Purchasing, the U.S. Small Business Administration and Mountain Home Air Force Base.

Participants will get an overview on bidding with the state of Idaho, requirements for bidding as a federal contractor, how business certifications can give an advantage and services available, such as free bid-matching.

Other topics to be covered include how to learn about government contracts and how to compete for them, the difference between state and federal contracting, understanding the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, 8(a) Business Development Program, HUBZone Certification, other business certifications and where to go for assistance.
