Drivers praise ITD for keeping highways safe, passable

During the recent flurry of snowy and icy highway conditions, ITD’s road maintenance crews received several compliments on their road-clearing efforts that improve safety and keep traffic moving. Following are some of their comments, compiled from several sources:

“I want to THANK your road guys for keeping the roads clear during this snow season. There was an article in the paper the other day stating that ODOT and ITD weren't maybe doing enough and I thought maybe they need to hear some appreciation for what they do. I travel the back road from Fruitland to Nyssa every morning and this morning the highway was cleared and in great condition! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Keep up the GREAT work. I appreciate what your drivers do!

“Hi. My name is Diane Nielsen, and I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful job you did with the snow removal on January 8, 2013!

I am a correctional officer at ICC and just wanted to say how much I appreciated what a wonderful job you all did getting not only the freeways cleared up but also Pleasant Valley Road. There are many officers that drive that road daily and we work 12- to 16-hour shifts ... so it was so nice to have a clean, clear road to drive on!

I'm sure you don't hear it often enough, so I wanted to make sure you did!

Thank you to the road crews and support staff that make it safe for us all! We do appreciate all that you do!”

“I travel on Highways 16 and 44 from Emmett for my commute to work.  After hearing the news reports this morning I expected my commute to be a bit longer.   In fact, the driver of the ACHD Commuterride van thought that also because she asked all of us to be 10 minutes early this morning. This was not the case, however, because we found Highways 16 and 44 to be clear and very maneuverable.  Please extend my thanks to your staff for all the hard work it did and let them know that they are truly appreciated. In fact, in my 15 years commuting from Emmett I have never experienced a time when traveling the roads in the winter was a problem! Their commitment represents the excellent customer service that we all strive to achieve.”

“Hi Guys! I want to tell you and your teams “Thank You” for taking such good care of our highways! I’m very lucky that I only have a 10- minute commute from my home to work, so I don’t have to use I-84 much … BUT, my daughter, Stephanie, now has a job in Nampa and has to travel the interstate from Curtis to Exit 33A. Needless to say, I was pretty darned nervous about Stephanie driving out to Nampa yesterday!

I totally assumed that all the roads would be like the roads in town. I was so relieved when she called to tell me she made it to work ok!! I asked how the highway was and she said it was great  - completely clear, no snow, no ice and she wasn’t nervous driving on it at all! I know that your teams had to have been out all day and all night to get the interstate to be in that good of shape and I wanted you to know how much we, the traveling public appreciate what you do! Thank you for keeping my family safe!”

“This past weekend I traveled from Meridian to visit family in Eastern Idaho. After the snowfall of last week I was worried about the condition of the roads and the time it would take to travel the 300 miles.  However as I traveled on I-84, I-86, I-15, & US-30 I was able to maintain posted highway speeds because of the outstanding effort of your crews in all three of the districts that I traveled through.  With rare exception, the roadways were dry, and I experienced no problems.  Please express my appreciation to your crews.  They do an outstanding job, as was evidenced in my experience and do not always get the thanks they deserve. Thanks again.”

“’Cheers’ to the Idaho Department of Transportation for keeping the highways clean between Caldwell and Ontario. My car would be skating along the highway if it wasn’t for them.”
