GIS, AASHTO subcommittee to meet in Boise, May 5-8

The use of geographic information systems (GIS) is firmly entrenched in planning and operating a modern transportation system.

Transportation officials in the public and private sectors will have an opportunity to explore the many contributions of GIS during a four-day seminar at the Grove Hotel in Boise. Sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the symposium will be May 5-8, with technical workshops offered as a prelude on May 5.

The GIS-T (transportation) symposium will coincide with the annual meeting of the AASHTO Subcommittee on Information Systems (ASIS). The working subcommittee meeting includes technical presentations, roundtable discussions and a business meeting (limited to AASHTO member delegates).

ASIS members and associated attendees should use the GIS-T website for information on registration and accommodations. Cross participation in presentations and other activities from ASIS and GIS-T is offered as a way of enhancing the attendee’s experience.

The GIS-T symposium will include keynote speakers, discussion forums, workshop presentations and a technology hall where exhibitors showcase their products and services. Organizations and individuals with information related to GIS in transportation are encouraged to share their experiences by presenting at the symposium.

The theme of the 26th annual GIS-T symposium is “Revealing a Gem,” in honor of Idaho, the Gem State.
