Construction bid information goes digital

In its continuing effort to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of its services, ITD changed the way it issues construction bid material.

It now uses Quest Construction Data Network (QuestCDN) services to bring contractors online digital project advertisements and digital project bidding documents. The system was designed from the ground up to bring maximum efficiency to the process of soliciting bids for construction projects.

QuestCDN delivers information to contractors in a timely, convenient and user-friendly manner. The digital project plans will be provided in the easy-to-use Adobe PDF format, so there is no software investment required. All contractors need is Internet access. Those who do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader can download it from the QuestCDN.com website where there is a link for the free software.

ITD will no longer offer project plans and specifications on CDs after June 1.

The cost is $10 to download each digital plan set from the QuestCDN site. Recipients can choose a monthly or annual download plan. (Plans can be viewed for free for basic take-offs.)Users will be able to print only the pages needed. While ITD understands printing capabilities vary in the construction industry, many of contractors already have the
ability to print larger formats than 8. 5 x 11.

Those who do not have the capability in house, are encouraged to contact QuestCDN.com to discuss printing alternatives. The speed of communication changes via digital addenda (automatic for those that acquire the digital plans) will be dramatically improved as well as through easy access to up-to-date information such as a planholders list.

Additional instructions for accessing the QuestCDN site, creating an account and viewing the projects open for bid can be found on the ITD Contractor Information web page http://itd.idaho.gov/design/ contractors/contrinfo.htm.

ITD is excited about this new initiative and welcomes comments and support, said Liz Healas,, coordinator of the department's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.
