Memorial Day walk to benefit special ops warriors, families

A Chinese proverb claims “a journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step.”

So does a 100-mile trip conceived as a fund-raiser for wounded soldiers.

Allen Amundson, a transportation technician in District 2’s traffic services, put together a walk from Walla Walla, Wash., to Lewiston to benefit wounded soldiers and help their families in times of need. The journey is affiliated with the Red Circle Foundation.

Amundson said 15 former military members had signed up to walk, including six from the Boise area. At least one woman will be among the walkers, scheduled to leave the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Hospital in Walla Walla Saturday at dawn and finish at the veteran’s home in Lewiston three days later.

Walkers will travel through Dayton, Wash., the first day and are expected to reach Pomeroy, Wash., on the second day.

All proceeds benefit the Red Circle Foundation that provides gap funding in support of Special Operations wounded warriors, their children and families of the fallen.
